Get A Library Card & Borrow Materials

 

Library Catalog

Our materials are included in the online Northern Water Library Network catalog. The catalog is shared among 30 member libraries in northern Wisconsin. Anything in the catalog can be requested and delivered to the library for you to pick up. Log into your My Library account with your name and the barcode on your library card to request or renew materials, create lists of titles, save your favorite searches, save your reading history, pay your fines online, and more.

 

Applying for a Library Card

 

Wisconsin Residents

Wisconsin residents may obtain a library card without charge. (The Bayfield Carnegie Library is supported by Wisconsin taxes.) Application must be made in person and proof of identity and current address is required.

Acceptable forms of identification include:

  •     Driver’s License

  •     Social Security Card

  •     Passport

  •     Student ID

  •     Other Government Issued ID

Acceptable forms of proof of address include:

  •     Current driver’s license

  •     Mail postmarked within the last month with address.

  •     Lease or rental agreement.

Out-of State Residents

Individuals who do not reside in Wisconsin may obtain a library card for a fee.

All fines, fees and gifts are used as revenue for library services and materials.

Application must be made in person and proof of identity and current address is required.

Examples of acceptable documents are the same as for Wisconsin Residents.

Temporary Residents

Any person living in the Town or County of Bayfield temporarily (for more than 4 weeks) may obtain a library card without charge.

Proof of identity and a local mailing address are required at time of application. Examples of acceptable documents are the same as for Wisconsin Residents.

A temporary borrower’s card has an expiration date of 30 days from the date of application; however, extensions may be granted upon request.

Computer Use Only

Individuals who either do not qualify for or do not want any of the above patron cards may obtain an Internet Use Only card.

This card allows patrons to use the public computers but does not allow check out of materials or use of the library’s other e-resources such as downloading of eBooks and eAudio.

Card Renewal

Library accounts will be renewed periodically.

Please let us know when you've had a change of address or phone number so we can keep your account updated.

Lost/Stolen Library Cards

Please notify the library if the card is lost or stolen.

Charges against an unreported lost or stolen card are the responsibility of the card holder. 

 

Borrowing Materials 

 

Check out Periods

  • 28 days: books, kits, equipment

  • 7 days: reference materials

  • 14 days: films, magazines, audio books, audio music, software 

Borrowing Rules

If you don't find what you need in the library today, ask us to reserve or borrow it from another library.

Borrowers may have a maximum of 20 items reserved.

Temporary residents (2 months or less) are limited to 5 items checked out.

Renewals

Materials not in demand may be renewed twice in person, by phone, or from the Merlin catalog.

To renew items online from the library's website:

  1. Click on the Library Catalog link

  2. Select the Log In link

  3. Enter your name and the library barcode number on your library card

  4. Click on the item currently checked out that you'd like to renew

  5. Choose "Renew all" items or "Renew selected items"

Important! Some items may not be renewable. Be sure to take note of all new due dates and any messages. 

Overdue Items

When you keep items past the due date, you will receive two notices to return them.

Lost and Damaged Items

If you lose or damage items, you will receive a bill and your record will be blocked until the items are paid for or returned.
