Creative Community Champion Award goes to Lucy Tyrrell

Beth Meyers, Lucy Tyrrell, Teresa Weber

Each year beginning in 2009, Arts Wisconsin and the League of Wisconsin Municipalities gives the Creative Community Champion Award to honor communities and civic leaders who have focused on creativity that encourages civic engagement, community vitality, and access to everyone.

In 2021, the honorees were Wisconsin's municipal Poets Laureate and Writers-in-Residence. As Bayfield Poet Laureate 2020–2021, Lucy Tyrrell was one of the eleven recipients.

Because Lucy wasn't able to attend the ceremony in Green Bay last fall, Anne Katz (of Arts Wisconsin) arranged to send her award north. Lucy received the award this spring at the Bayfield Carnegie Library, a fitting location because the library is the sponsor of the Bayfield Poet Laureate program. Wisconsin Assembly Representative for District 74 Beth Meyers (left) was present to offer her congratulations to Lucy (center) and to the library's director, Teresa Weber. By design, the photo was taken in front of the library's poetry collection. To learn about other award recipients, https://www.artswisconsin.org/programsservices/awards/
